3681. Coles, G. J. Feb. 12. Couplings, automatic, for colliery trams and like vehicles. A plate a, carrying a hook and an aperture g to engage the hook on the other vehicle, is provided with projections b adapted to fit beneath the end of the vehicle frame, and with an aperture c shaped to fit over the end h of the draw-bar. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the hook e is formed in one with the plate and is provided with an inclined impact face f. Uncoupling is effected by raising the upper plate by a chain. In a modification, Fig. 4, a pivoted hook k is provided, and uncoupling is effected by a chain attached to a lug p on the hook. A stop q limits the upward movement of the hook. A recess r may be provided in the plate a to receive the nose of the hook.
