Catch gear of mine-cage type. -A safety suspending-device for mine cages is normally retained out of action by a rope or the like which is artificially severed on the cage descending below a particular point. A frame 12, movable in the vertical direction relatively to the cage, carries cams or rollers 8 which bear on long cambered grips 7. The frame is normally held up against the influence of springs by a rope 13 attached to the suspending rope so that the rollers or the like are out of engagement with the guide 6. The rope 13 is attached by means of a detachable connexion to a lever 22, the free end of which bears against the bottom of the frame. The connexion comprises a plate having a bayonet-slot around which the rope 13 is looped. Pivoted to this plate is a plate 30 which is kept out of action by a copper rivet 31. When on descending the device engages the fixed part 27, the rivet is sheared and the loop pushed out of its slot, thus bringing the cams into play.
