Wind and like guards.-A wind-screen, comprising front and side glazed sections m, n is hinged upon a plate g hinged upon an horizontal rod d mounted in slides f running on uprights c. To maintain the rod d in an horizontal position it is provided with pinions for engagement with a rack formed on the uprights. The screen is held in a substantially vertical position upon the plate g by rods r pivoted to the slides and to a carrier k to which the screen is hinged at p. The inclination of the plate g is determined by cords t secured to the screen and to the slides f. The tension in the cords t is preferably used to fix the slides in adjusted position upon the uprights by securing the cords to levers v having cam surfaces for engagement with the uprights. When not required, the screen can be folded against the plate g, as shown, and the whole against the uprights c. In a modification, Fig. 4, the screen is adapted to be raised and lowered in the carrier k by racks upon it engaged by pinions 4 on a shaft 3 mounted on a front plate 1 of the carrier. The shaft 3 is rotated by a crank 8 and worm-gear 7. The plate g and screen may be curved transversely. Side screens may be attached to the plate g. To drain off the rain, a waterproof sheet 9 is attached to the plate g and to the car body a, and carries a perforated pipe 10, the downturned ends of which pass through the floor or into pipes 11.
