Potato planters.-In machines of the kind in which the potatoes are fed to a distributing- wheel 7 by a drum carrying prongs 5 passing through a grating 6, means, are provided for driving the feeding-drum intermittently at variable speeds. The wheel 7 is driven from the travelling-wheels by toothed gearing and drives the feed-drum intermittently by means of adjustable crank - and - ratchet mechanism 9, 10, 11. A discharge tube 4 delivers the potatoes to a furrow opened by two disks 13 mounted on a swinging frame 12, which may be raised by means of a lever 15. The furrow is closed by shares 14. Jamming of the potatoes in the pronged grippers 8 of the wheel 7 is prevented by double-armed ejectors 17 actuated by engagement with a fixed stop 19.
