摘要
26,569. Rowse, F. P. Dec. 20. Photo-mechanical printing; finishing; retouching; intensifying. - In the preparation of prints by retouching and finishing for reproduction in halftone, three-colour, or similar processes, ordinary photographic reagents are used instead of watercolour paints. The dark parts of the print are engraved by scraping away with a fine steel blade, and any missing detail is filled in in the blank or white parts of the print. The parts of the picture which are to be retained in their original colours or shades are then coated with waterproof ink. The print is soaked in water,-and treated with a bath containing potassium cyanide and iodine. This has the effect of lightening the parts unprotected by the ink. Instead of being used in a bath, the chemicals may be applied with a brush, especially in the case of large prints. The waterproof ink is removed with methylated spirit. Any retouching can finally be done with crayon pencil. The Provisional Specification also states that the middle tones can be deepened' by copper or silver nitrate solutions or other intensifying-baths.
