Sunken ships and objects, raising; buildings and structures, subaqueous; piles; buoys.-Sunken ships, piles, and blocks for subaqueous structures, and other objects are raised and handled by buoying them with gas generated electrolytically in the cabins and other compartments of ships or in separate bottomless vessels attached to them. One example of such a buoy is shown in the Figure, one of the electrodes a' being placed outside to allow of the escape of oxygen, the hydrogen only being collected. Vents a' placed below the electrodes allow excess gas to escape without tilting of the buoy.
