Bookcases book slides; indicators, library.-An apparatus, to be attached to the shelves of libraries, has for its objects the locking and securing of the volumes on each shelf and the supporting of the volumes in a vertical position by means of a plate on which may be recorded the removal of a volume. Fig. 1 shows an elevation of a shelf fitted with the apparatus. Fig. 1a is a horizontal section through the rod a. This rod a, which may be of D or other cross-section, has a longitudinal groove n. One end of this rod a fits into the slot d1, and the other end drops into the slot b', in which it is locked by screwing in the screw p, by means of a special key, till the point of the screw engages in the groove n. The brackets b, d containing the slots b1, d1 may be made in one piece. On the rod a slides a block e which is locked to the rod by means of a screw p1 similar to the screw p. This block e carries the plate f on which the tablet for registration is fitted. This plate, as shown in Fig. 1, supports the books in a vertical position.
