Dyeing.-Relates to dyeing with dye-stuffs similar to those described in Specification No. 13,778, A.D. 1902. m-Amidobenzoylamidonaphtholdisulphonic acid is acted on by diazobenzene, the mixture is heated, and the dye-stuff precipitated by common salt. It dyes cotton without a mordant clear orange-red tints, which become darker and more fast to washing by diazotization on the fibre and development with #-naphthol. Instead of diazobenzene, diazoxylene may be used, producing a dye-stuff of reddish - scarlet tint. The diazo derivative of any amine of the benzene or naphthalene series, or a substitution product of a like amine, may be used, while another amidoalphylacidyl derivative of 2 :5 1 : 7 -amidonaphtholdisulphonic acid may also be used. Again, m-acetamidobenzoyl-2 : 6-amidonaphthol-1 7-disulphonic acid is acted on by #-diazonaphthalene, the mixture heated, caustic soda added, and the acetyl group driven off by heat. The dye-stuff is, after neutralization, precipitated by salt, and dyes without a mordant clear bluish-red tints. By diazotization on the fibre and development with #-naphthol, brilliant scarlet tints are obtained. Other diazocompounds, or other acetylamido - alphylacidyl derivatives of 2:5 :1 7-amidonaphtholdisulphonic acid may be used.
