2291. Taylor, A. M. Jan. 28. Indicators, station, stopping-place, and like, for use in railway carriages, street cars, or other public vehicles. The names of the stations or streets are marked on a web D, which is wound from the roller B on to the spring-actuated roller C, and passes round guide rollers E so as to expose the indications in succession through the aperture A1. The web is re-wound on the roller B by turning the knob B2. The operating-spring G is connected to the shaft F, which is geared to the roller C by a pawl and ratchet. The shaft F has a second pawl-and-ratchet connection with the wheel H, which is normally locked by a stop-pin J on the end of the spring-controlled lever K, to prevent movement of the indicator. The ratchets are arranged to permit the shaft F to be turned by a key in the direction for winding up the spring. To alter the indication, the button N', which actuates the lever K through the intermediate spring-controlled lever L, is pressed in and then released, the inward movement releasing the stoppin from the wheel H, and permitting the spring G to rotate the shaft F, the roller C, and the wheel H until the wheel has completed a revolution, and the next indication has been brought into view. The stop-pin then re-engages the wheel H.
