The present technology discloses a hybrid beamforming apparatus and method for a large-scale MIMO system based on millimeter wave. According to a specific example of the present technology, singular value decomposition of a low-dimensional effective channel matrix is performed in the baseband domain to derive a singular vector of a data stream, and a digital beam is generated and combined with the derived singular vector, and incremental continuous in the RF domain. As a data stream is restored by retrieving a subset of the array response vectors from the dictionary matrix through a selection technique, generating and combining analog beams with the retrieved array response vectors, hybrid beamforming is performed by separating into analog domains and digital domains. The complexity can maximize the spectral efficiency, thereby improving the performance of the system.
