A charging method for an extra-high voltage flexible direct-current hybrid full-bridge and half-bridge converter. Each phase unit of the hybrid full-bridge and half-bridge converter comprises an upper bridge arm unit and a lower bridge arm unit. Each bridge arm unit is mainly formed by connecting a full-bridge sub-module and a half-bridge sub-module in series. The method comprises: under a short-circuit charging mode on a direct-current side, triggering a power device T2 or T3 in a full-bridge module; under a non-short-circuit charging mode on a direct-current side, triggering a power device T1 or T4 in the full-bridge module in an uncontrollable charging stage, and triggering the power devices T1 and T3 or the power devices T2 and T4 in the full-bridge module in a controllable charging stage, so as to increase the capacitor voltage of the full-bridge module and the capacitor voltage of a half-bridge module until the voltages of all the modules reach rated voltages. By triggering the specific power device T2 or T3 in the full-bridge module under the short-circuit charging mode on the direct-current side, the method only needs to issue a module power device triggering command without requiring to introduce the measurement such as an alternating-current voltage and to add additional criteria, enabling the full-bridge module and the half-bridge module to be powered on to operate normally.
