Disclosed is an apparatus and method for diagnosing a learning type using a learner's visual behavior in an online learning environment. The method for diagnosing a learning type includes the steps of collecting visual behavioral data on areas of interest of a problem to be solved by a learner; Identifying an order of fixing the learner's gaze with respect to the areas of interest in the problem by using the collected visual behavioral data; Analyzing the pattern of the identified gaze fixation order to derive a probability of occurrence for each representative event corresponding to a method of solving the problem; And diagnosing the learning type of the learner for the problem based on the derived probability of occurrence.
