The present invention relates to a method and system for determining the position of a cargo ship ramp. The ramp positioning system includes solutions for determining a representation of the landing area of the cargo ramp, providing a digital model of the ramp, and capturing sensor data for comparison with the representation to determine that there are no objects in the landing area.
