The present invention relates to the use of a product obtained by an additive manufacturing process from an organic material chosen from the group comprising a carbohydrate, a lipid, a nitrogenous organic compound, an aromatic compound, an extract of algae, a wax, a pigment, a phytate and mixtures thereof, in order to study the evolution of said organic matter originating from said product in and on the soil. It also relates to a substitute (ersatz) of a plant, a part of a plant or a part of a decomposing organism obtained by an additive manufacturing process (3D printing) from a material organic selected from the group consisting of cellulose, starch, hemicellulose, pectin, chitin, polylactic acid, a phospholipid, a peptidoglycan, a ribonucleic or deoxyribonucleic acid, a hydrocarbon, a triglyceride, a glycerol tetraether , a triterpene, a sterol, an aromatic hydrocarbon, lignin, tannins, an extract of algae, a wax, chlorophyll, an anthocyanin, a carotene and their mixtures, said substitute having the shape of a whole plant, d a part of a plant or a part of a decomposing organism. It also relates to the additive manufacturing process of said substitute or of the product as used in the context of the invention.
