A method for determining a signature index of an observation target tissue includes a step (12) of providing a general attenuation model of a gradient magnetic field pulse MRI attenuation signal S (b), and a reference model parameter vector (pR ( i)) providing step (14). Based on the variation over the b value of the determined (16) partial differential sensitivity dSi (b) of the model attenuation signal S (b) for each model parameter p (i) in the neutral state attenuation signal SN (b) A discrete and small set of b values is constructed (18) and a series of MRI images of the tissue to be observed are acquired using the noted b values (20). Next, for each voxel, the voxel V signature index (sADC (V), Sdist (V), SCdist (V), Snl (V), SI (V)) is obtained with the attention b value. And a scalar function depending on the distance from the signal pattern in the reference state of the tissue at the same attention b value (22). An apparatus for implementing such a method is configured.
