Adaptive traffic light system for reducing city traffic, consisting of several interconnected modules; the user (10) specifies the departure and destination of his/her route on an application (300) executable on a smartphone (100), or on an ad-hoc hardware device (200), which carries out the functions of a navigator; said application (300) sends the arrival and departure point to a central unit (400) which returns the best path in terms of time, length, traffic and with the lowest wait time at the traffic light devices (500) that receive the commands on setting the lights (510) to minimize the users travel time (10); the device (200) communicates with the traffic lights (500) the crossing at the intersection which together with the data provided by the application (300) on the speed and position are used by the central unit (400) to update the route and the commands to be sent to the next traffic lights (500);
