Provided is a VvDUF642 gene. The VvDUF642 gene continues to be highly expressed in seedless grape varieties, and the expression level thereof has no significant change in seeded grape varieties. Transforming of Arabidopsis thaliana by the VvDUF642 gene can cause Arabidopsis thaliana seed deformation, and transforming of tomatoes by the VvDUF642 gene can cause tomato seed abortion. Also provided is the use of the VvDUF642 gene or protein in the construction or screening of seed abortion grape varieties.
