The invention relates to a method for preparing, by co-mulling in a melt, a catalyst comprising a metal from the group VIB and a medium comprising alumina, the method comprising the following steps: a) mixing an alumina precursor with an aqueous solution in order to obtain a paste, b) bringing the paste into contact with a hydrated metal acid comprising at least one metal from the group VIB, the melting point of the hydrated solid metal acid of which is between 20 and 100°C, the mass ratio between the metal acid and the porous medium being between 0.05 and 2.2, c) stirring the paste to a temperature between the melting temperature of the metal acid and 100°C, d) shaping the paste, e) drying, and f) calcining. The invention also relates to the catalyst and the use thereof in the field of hydrotreating and/or hydrocracking.
