Provided is an ultrafine cemented carbide that exhibits superior transverse rupture strength while having high hardness. This ultrafine cemented carbide is characterized by containing 80 wt% to 99.4 wt% of a hard phase primarily constituted of tungsten carbide (WC), 0.1 wt% to 10.0 wt% of a carbonitride phase primarily constituted of carbonitride titanium (Ti (C, N) obtained by carbonitriding titanium (Ti) oxide during sintering, and 0.50 wt% to 20 wt% of a binder phase primarily constituted of at least one element selected from cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), and iron (Fe), the total of the hard phase, the carbonitride phase, and the binder phase being 100 wt%, the sintered WC having an average particle size of 1.0 μm or less, the cemented carbide containing 0.10 wt% to 20.0 wt% chromium carbide (Cr3C2) with respect to the total binder phase, the nitrogen content being 0.10 wt% to 1.25 wt%, and the carbon content being 4.80 wt% to 6.30 wt%.
