In an optical multiplexing/demultiplexing method according to the present disclosure, a polished surface of an optical fiber core wire, which was obtained by polishing a lateral surface thereof to a core or near said core, is arranged so as to be face-to-face with a polished surface of an optical waveguide in which the propagation constant changes along the longitudinal direction and which was obtained by polishing a lateral surface thereof to a core or near said core, and the polished surface of the optical fiber core wire and the polished surface of the optical waveguide are moved reciprocally to each other and positioned in positions where a desired branching ratio from one end of the optical fiber core wire to the other end of the optical waveguide can be obtained.
