The present invention relates to an agent for preventing spontaneous ignition of coal and a method for preventing spontaneous ignition. According to one embodiment, the present invention provides: (1) sodium sesquicarbonate; (2) at least one antioxidant selected from tannins, L-ascorbic acid and salts thereof; (3) sodium bicarbonate; (4) at least one component selected from sodium alginate and seaweed extract; (5) natural polysaccharides; (6) at least one component selected from sodium polyacrylate and an acrylic acid/sodium acrylate copolymer; And (7) provides an agent for preventing spontaneous ignition of coal containing water and a method for preventing spontaneous ignition of coal using the same.
