In order to provide a method for accurately estimating the degree of wear of a tire when travelling regardless of tire wear shape, the degree of wear of the tire is estimated using: an index of a deformation speed at or near an edge of a tire contact patch calculated from the magnitude of either or both of positive and negative peaks appearing in a radial acceleration waveform obtained by differentiating a time-series waveform of a tire radial acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor attached to the tire; a ground contact time ratio which is a ratio between a ground contact time and a rotation time of the tire, the ground contact time being a time interval between the positive and negative peaks, the rotation time being a time interval between either of the positive and negative peaks; and a deflection amount which is a difference between a tire radius and an effective radius, the tire radius being the radius of the tire when the tire is free of load, the effective radius being the radius of the tire when travelling.
