Design of an optical transmitter that generates a laser pulse with an improved optical waveform shape of the generated laser pulse and provides compensation for the optical chirp of the optical transmitter. Such pulsed optical transmitters can be used in a variety of applications including optical communication systems and other optical sensing systems such as optical detection and ranging systems (LiDAR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) systems.
