This invention involves: an input reception unit for receiving an input of a keyword; a document acquisition unit for carrying out a character recognition process on document image data for a handwritten document, and acquiring an inscriber's name and a document file from a digital document database in which are stored document files in the form of text data and the names of inscribers who have inscribed characters in a handwritten document; a corresponding keyword acquisition unit for referencing a corresponding keyword database in which is stored information wherein an inscriber's name, a keyword, and a corresponding keyword are associated with each other, and acquiring, from a keyword that has been input from the input reception unit and an inscriber's name that has been acquired by the document acquisition unit, a corresponding keyword for the keyword that has been input; a document search unit for using the keyword that has been input and the corresponding keyword that has been acquired to search the document file acquired by the document acquisition unit; and a search result output unit for outputting a search result from the document search unit.
