An air disinfectant for disinfecting air in a room accessible to persons, comprising:a housing with an air inlet, an air outlet, and air disinfectants, where the air disinfectants are designed to disinfect the air flowing through the housing from the air inlet to the air outlet in order to obtain disinfected air, the air disinfectants having an UV light source emitting UV-C light, and air carriers for the transport of air from the air inlet to the air outlet,the air disinfection device operates according to the principle of air displacement, with an air flow rate of the disinfected air from the air outlet set so that the air from the air outlet is evenly distributed and the mixing of the disinfected air with ambient air is minimised; where the air outlet is located below the air inlet and preferably at a ground level of the room, and where the air disinfection device forms a separate, independent unit that can be connected to the connecting network, for example by means of a network cable.
