The present invention relates to a method for selecting the number of hidden units by using mutual information (MI) of hidden units within an artificial neural network model and a method for predicting a hydroclimatic variable by using same and, more particularly, to a method for selecting the number of hidden units by using mutual information of hidden units within an artificial neural network model and a method for predicting a hydroclimatic variable by using same, in which the number of hidden units is selected by using mutual information of the hidden units within an artificial neural network model, and climate factor time series data is analyzed by using the artificial neural network model having the selected number of hidden units so as to output a hydroclimatic variable.
