An apparatus and/or method for managing a large-scale capital project obtains access to 2D capital project documents (“2D documents”) created using project data generated by a 3D design program. Documents are logically related through a hierarchy defined by multiple attribute-based rules. Next, the method and/or apparatus accesses the given 2D document. Like others, a given 2D document has certain given properties and is at a given hierarchical level. The method and/or apparatus then applies at least one of the attribute-based rules to a given attribute of the given 2D document, and, as a function of application of the attribute-based rule, to any different 2D document in a plurality of 2D documents in different hierarchical levels. Decide whether to access Accordingly, the method and/or apparatus access different 2D documents as a function of application of the stated attribute-based rule to a given attribute.
