A machine vision-based flying cigarette ash detection device and detection method, which belong to the technical field of flying cigarette ash detection. A manipulator (1) that simulates human body cigarette smoking action is used to clamp and detect a sample. In the process of simulating human body smoking, multiple groups of cameras are used to synchronously perform full-information real-time tracking on a cigarette combustion process; and under the condition that cigarette ash is not flicked, by comparing differences of the collected images, changes in the area of the cracks where the cigarette ash flies off and falls off the combusted cigarette ash column are identified, so as to calculate the situation characterizing the flying cigarette ash scattered outside the fixed cigarette ash flicking points. The present invention overcomes the influence of subjective factors, provides a quantitative detection method with good repeatability, objectivity, and high reliability, can more accurately evaluate product differences, guide related research work on cigarette formula, and improve cigarette quality.
