The paper is an exploration of how the planning mechanisms of the city, which may be described as objective and positivist in outlook-a thesis for city living, meet and interact with the lived experience of the citizen-the antithesis of daily life. The forms and nature of this interaction are the subject of the enquiry in both a sociological and public policy sense.
