The search by aeroengineers for greater turbine efficiency at economic costs is leading the industry into new perspectives for both manufacturing technologies and relationships with the design community. This paper reviews the emerging technologies impacting on investment casting and discusses how they can most effectively be applied after considering, with hindsight, the achievements of the last 50 years of service to the aerospace industry.
