The paper describes a framework for contentindependent collaborative mobile learning along with the two content-specific applications built on top of it. The technical architecture provides mechanisms for computer-based collaboration that facilitates face-to-face collaborative mathematics and Chinese language learning activities in a primary school setting. We present the theoretical underpinnings of our approach, the software and research design in both mathematics and language learning, as well as the outcomes of a series of preliminary trials. The experience from the trials has been used to propose a new cycle of the system and user interface re-design, and research design.
