In the scope of improving flight safety from the point an aircraft commences an instrument or visual approach, while on the approach, circling, landing or during any missed approach procedure, the relationship between pilots and air traffic controllers is fundamental. The tasks of pilots and air traffic controllers are complex. Each task is executed under high workload. Along with this goes a major overlap of shared tasks and responsibilities. Each task and responsibility is radical interfering with both the pilot's and the air traffic controller's operational environment. Mutual impact of the collaborate task of pilots and air traffic controllers is so direct that one can speak of an unique process. The causal role it is playing in aircraft accidents is substantial increased. Unless improved technology the working methods and data exchange between pilots and controllers are still on, so to speak, (aviation) stone-aged base. Person-to-person verbal communication between human professionals, each totally involved in their own process is one of the aspects where we can achieve a step forward into an even more safer aviation industry. The development of Crew Resource Management (CRM) between crew members already paid back the investment. The extension from cockpit crew towards cabin crew is on its way. On ALAR data results we are convinced that the next challenge is to extend CRM between pilots and air traffic controllers. This article intends to contribute to and support the initiated actions.
