This paper presents a discussion of the implementation efforts of the LRFD specification by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. General background on the deployment of the specifications by the Department is provided. Specific experiences on the design of the Department's first major bridge using this specification, the Doremus Avenue Bridge in Newark, New Jersey will be shared. This bridge is part of a very significant system of roadways in the Port Newark area that form the very backbone of New Jersey's planned improvements to the port. Information on several other bridges under design for NJDOT using the LRFD specifications is also included.
