A Proposed Method to Study the Life-cycle Energy Consumption of the Automotive Industry

摘要

To reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions associated with vehicle use,the automotive industry is considering many vehicular changes.To investigate the impact of these changes on the automotive energy consumption,this paper presents a method to study the life-cycle energy consumption.A generic vehicle, aluminium intensive vehicle and composite intensive vehicle are targeted to discuss the potential impacts on the life-cycle energy.Relationships are being established to describe the energy consumption of every stage in the vehicle life cycle.Scenario analysis is adopted to deal with the uncertainties associating with the end-of-life phase of a vehicle.Finally we hope to understand the benefit,if any,of using lighterweight materials on the energy consumption of the automotive industry with different recycling infrastructures.
