For the last twenty years the major problem of the atmospheric pollution at the urban has lead to thernsolution of the Electric Vehicles. Although these vehicles seem to be the best solution against thisrnproblem, they have some important disadvantages essentially because of the batteries they use. One ofrnthese problems is the vehicle autonomy, which is directly related to the vehicle efficiency. In order tornachieve a bigger autonomy the minimization of the power losses is a great issue and an importantrnsubject of studying. One of the vehicle parts, which appears increased power losses, is the electricrnmotor. On the other hand the mechanical parts in such vehicles increase the cost, the complexity andrnthe power losses. In this paper an analytical study of the power losses for different kinds of electricrnmotors is developed. This study is focused on the estimation of the power losses as a function of therngear ratio value for constant vehicle speed values or for constant road grade values. The analyticalrnequations can be solved and yield the proper gear ratios in order to have the minimum power losses.rnAlso a graphical representation of these equations for some certain motors is shown. Finally somernimportant conclusions about the proper gear ratios are presented.
