It is not the intention of this paper to discuss the potential advantages of fibre optic technology, as applied to aircraft control and communication systems, as these have been widely discussed in the literature, with a wide range of novel sensing techniques and systems architectures being reported. Rather, it is the authors' intention to provide an insight into some of the specific issues relating to the application and through life support, on aircraft, of the optical interconnection hardware required to enable such systems.rnThe content of this paper is drawn largely from the work carried out within the framework of the DTI CARAD and MoD funded Fibre Optic Harness Study, Phase II.
