The fluoropolymers PFA (PerFluoroAlkoxy) and FEP (TetraFluorEthylene-Perfluorpropylene), supplied by Holscot Industrial Linings Ltd, UK, were tested for their compatibility with 90% hydrogen peroxide as supplied by Degussa Huls. The materials were subjected to chemical and physical tests to assess the performance envelope of the polymers. The degree of decomposition of the peroxide was calculated by measuring the pressure rise rate of passivated coupon samples. The surface of the polymer was examined with X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) for signs of oxidation and alteration of the chemical composition of the surface. The permeability of the polymers to hydrogen peroxide and its mechanical strength after 4 month exposure was also measured.
