Measurement Investigate of Cerebral Arteries with MRA

Objective With the social progress and the improvement of people's living standard, the cerebrovascular disease, which in high attack rate and death rate, has become one of the three main causes of death in human diseases. 10% of death in all diseases are due to the cerebrovascular disorder, and among the survivor, 50%~70% of the patients remain severe disability such as palsy and anepia, that bring heavy burden to the social and family. Till now, there has been less study on the sectional diameter and applied anatomy significance in normal cerebral arteries by use of MRA. This study utilized the MRA technique to image the normal morphology of the internal carotid artery, the anterior cerebral artery, the middle cerebral artery and the posterior cerebral artery intracranial, measure the diameters in each segment and observe the branching condition, in order to provide anatomic basis for diagnosis and interventional therapy of the cerebrovascular disease. Method 105 Dalian healthy adult residents (male 68, female 37) were scaned the head and the cerebral arteries were reconstituted and volumetric displayed by maximum intensity projection method and the diameters of each segment were measured with the measure tool provided by the computer. The courses, the branch types and the left-and-right differences of the cerebral arteries were observed. Result 1. The measured values of cerebral arteries in MRA: (1) The diameters of C5-Clsegment of internal carotid artery in left side were 3.59mm, 4.12mm, 4.23mm, 4.35mm and 4.21mm respectively, in right side were 3.58mm, 4.09mm, 4.20mm, 4.33mm and 4.16mm. (2) The diameters of A1-A5 segment of anterior cerebral artery in left side were1.69mm, 1.55mm, 1.45mm, 1.38mm and 1.02mm, in right side were 1.60mm, 1.46mm, 1.43mm, 1.33mm and 1.01mm. (3) The diameters of M1-M5 segment of middle cerebral artery in left side were 2.69mm, 2.14mm, 1.85mm, 1.66mm and 1.50mm, in right side were 2.51mm, 2.04mm, 1.78mm, 1.60mm and 1.45mm. (4) The diameters of P1-P4 segment of posterior cerebral artery in left side were 2.21mm, 2.36mm, 1.76mm and 1.45mm, in right side were 2.19mm, 2.30mm, 1.68mm and 1.44mm. 2. The constituent ratio of left- and-right differences in cerebral arteries: (1) The ratio of the diameter of left internal carotid artery larger than, equal to, and smaller than that of right side in C5 segment were 21.0%, 63.8% and 15.2%, in C4 segment were 19.0%, 64.8% and 16.2%. (2) The ratio of the diameter of left anterior cerebral artery larger than, equal to, and smaller than that of right side in AI segment were 20.0%, 72.4% and 7.6%, in A2 segment were 23.8%, 63.8% and 12.4%. (3) The ratio of the diameter of left middle cerebral artery larger than, equal to, and smaller than that of right side in M1 segment were 24.8%, 60.9% and 14.3%, in M2 segment were 22.9%, 63.8% and 13.3%. (4) The ratio of the diameter of left posterior cerebral artery larger than, equal to, and smaller than that of right side in Pl segment were 26.7%, 51.4% and 21.9%, in P2segment were 16.2%, 69.5% and 14.3%. 3. The branch types: 90.0% of the anterior cerebral artery were the simple trunk type, 10.0% were double trunk type. 45.2% of the middle cerebral artery were the simple trunk type, 47.6% were double trunk type and 7.2% were poly-trunk type. 85.7% of the origin of the posterior cerebral artery were basal artery, 8.6% of the posterior cerebral artey start from the posterior communicating artery and 6.7% formed by both basal artery and posterior communicating artery. Conclusion 1. The total length and the main branches of cerebral arteries can be volumetric displayed clearly by MRA technique. 2. The MRA measured values of diameters of the internal carotid artery, the anterior cerebral artery, the middle cerebral artery and the posterior cerebral artery intracranial were generally in accordance to that of cadaver. 3. MRA技术可以清楚地显示脑动脉的总长度和主要分支。 2.颈内动脉,大脑前动脉,大脑中动脉和大脑后动脉颅内径的MRA测量值通常与尸体的测量值一致。 3.左右有所不同
