Most papers on the subject of non thermal plasma (NTP) treatment of automotive NOx have used the concentric tube reactor (CPR) or parallel plate reactor (PPR) to generate the corona discharge. This paper investigates a reactor design based on a matrix of electrodes parallel to the gas flow. Design parameters studied included electrode spacing, dielectric thickness, dielectric type, and treated gas volume. NO to NO_2 performance versus energy density, (joules/liter), was the metric used to evaluate the TARs. Although most tests were conducted with NO and C_3H_6 at 200 ppm, O_2 at 10% and N_2 balanced, there were tests conducted to investigate effects of varying HC type, HC_1/NO ratio, and oxygen levels as well.
