In order to improve CO selectivity, we have studied CuO based CO gas sensor modified with alkaline metal addition. It was effective for CO selectivity when Na_2CO_3 was added to CuO. This high selectivity for CO gas due to increased CO sensitivity and to decreased H_2 sensitivity appeared at above lwt% Na_2CO_3 addition. CO sensitivity was affected by sintered temperature, and indicated the maximum at 823-873K. This sensor was little affected by coexisting gases such as H_2, CH_4, NO, and SO_2. As this system indicated satisfactory CO gas selectivity against other interference gases, it was suggested that this system was able to detect only CO gas in real exhaust gas.
