DEVELOPLMENT OF THE PEFC CO-GENERATION SYSTEM AT TOKYO GAS

PEFC (Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell) is considered as the promising technology to generate electricity with high efficiency and low environmental impact, and the active research and development of PEFC for various applications are conducted universally. In Japan, besides the research and development at private companies, national projects related to PEFC are enforced with the object of accelerating the development and commercialization of PEFC. Tokyo Gas has been investigating the co-generation system based on PEFC. According to our estimation, residential PEFC co-generation system is expected to contribute to the saving of energy consumption and the reduction of CO_2, NO_x and SOx emission. Tokyo Gas is conducting the concept study of the PEFC co-generation system based on the market analysis and R&D of the technologies such as fuel processing, hot water management, pure hydrogen fueled PEFC system and so on.
