Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a mathematical toolrncapable of simulating a wide range of fluid flows. IntegratedrnCFD software has been applied to study the flows in two- andrnthree-phase oilfield separators. The influence of inlet nozzlernconfiguration, flow distributors, perforated plates, and outletrnnozzles have been studied.rnOf particular value has been the ability to simulate waverninduced sloshing in vessels mounted on floating platforms.rnThe design and placement of baffles to mitigate liquidrnsloshing was determined by using CFD to simulate fluid flowsrnin vessels destined for service on floating platforms. Thernsimulations accounted for the movement of the vessel basedrnupon its actual location on the platform and identified therninfluence of process fluid flows on slosh motion. Wherernpossible, laboratory testing has been used to validate CFDrnsimulation results, leading to increased confidence in thernmathematical models.
