This paper outlines a new technique to determine originalrnhydrocarbon in place (OHIP) and aquifer influx constant fromrnproduction and pressure history. The Hsieh et al 1.method wasrnmodified and extended in many significant respects. With thernnew technique, calculations can be done using either thernconventional (CMBE) or general material balance equationrn(GMBE). The proposed method thus applies to any fluid typern(gas, oil, gas condensate, volatile oil etc.). This method doesrnnot require any pre-selection of aquifer models, and it can stillrncalculate aquifer constant, water influx quantities and OHIPrnvalues. A computer algorithm was developed to take thern“subjectivity” out of the Hsieh et. al. method. The newrntechnique was successfully verified using numerous real-lifernexamples that involved different reservoir types. The methodrnwas incorporated and tested using the commercially availablernmaterial balance program~2 (OilWatTM / GasWatTM)~(1#).
