The demand for high density and high strength P/M parts has been on the increase due to the need for high performance and lightweight automobile engines. The warm compaction process has been increasingly popular as a way to meet the demands of the highly competitive automotive industry. The benefits of warm compaction are higher density and lower costs when compared to double pressing and double sintering or powder forging. We have a newly developed lubricant and binding agent for the warm compaction process to minimize the variation of powder properties at elevated temperatures. This paper demonstrates the effect of temperature on powder and mechanical properties by utilizing a Ni-Mo pre-alloyed steel powder.
