OSTERWALDER AG presents an innovative drive concept for powder presses combined with a unique software control system. The drive concept is based on a combination of a mechanically driven upper punch and a hydraulically driven die movement. The additional auxiliary axes are hydraulically moved. The easy-to-handle control system in combination with the outstanding drive concept allows productivity gains not known until now. This results in drastically reduced programming time, higher stroke rates thanks to the combined drive system and a significantly improved process capability. It will be shown the influence of the Part Related Programming on the set-up time; furthermore the potential of higher stroke rates due to perfectly matched press cycles, and the effect of state-of-the-art electronics and hydraulics on the improved process capability. Concluding can be said, that the press system itself is no longer the limiting factor for significant higher production outputs and thus dramatically reduced costs.
