The application of pulse combustion-based jet impingement to paper is addressed. Pulserncombustion impingement can produce significantly higher drying rates in comparison to steadyrnflow impingement. The performance of three different systems, under various operatingrnconditions, was evaluated. Some operating conditions were compared to mechanically pulsed airrnand steady flow impingement. Pulse combustion impingement used for paper drying canrnproduce significantly higher drying rates; however, performance depends on the pulse combustorrnconfiguration, the impingement nozzle geometry, the substrate supporting the sheet, and thernpresence or absence of vacuum.
