This paper proposes an algorithm development and testrnprocedure for power electronics and power system researchrnusing simulation, hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation, andrnelectrical experiments. A flexible and reconfigurablernexperimental setup is introduced in this paper first and thernrelated problems of power electronics and power systemrnresearch are identified. The importance of the simulation,rnespecially the real time HIL simulation is emphasized, and arncomplete design procedure is proposed and analyzed in detail.rnUsing the proposed procedure, the research and test cycle canrnbe greatly reduced. The algorithm development can also bernstandardized according to design requirements. A converterrncontrol case study demonstrates the entire design procedurernand verifies the effectiveness of the proposed designrnprocedure.
