摘要

This paper analyses the possibility of using electric or hybrid vehicles in the framework ofrnintermodal transport. Intermodal transport is the combination of at least two modes of transportrnin a single transport chain. Goods are stored in containers that are transferred from one transportrnmode to another. The pre and post haulage (PPH) from its origin to a terminal and from a secondrnterminal to its destination are mostly performed by lorries. The longest part of the trip, therntransportation between the two hubs, are mostly performed by rail, inland waterway or short searnshipping. The PPH are usually not longer than 30km and hence could possibly be handled byrnelectric or hybrid vehicles. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) combine electric and other drivernsystems, such as internal combustion engines, gas turbines and fuel cells. Hybrid electric vehiclesrnmerge the zero pollution and high efficiency benefits of electric traction with the high fuel energyrndensity benefits of an energy source or thermal engine.rnThe paper analyses the feasibility of the concept both from the viewpoints of vehicle technologyrnand of transport economics. The use of electrically driven vehicle for parcel goods distribution tornend-users has successfully proven its value in international demonstration projects like ELCIDIS.rnTransport of intermodal units (such as ISO containers) however requires electric/hybrid heavydutyrngoods vehicles which are not readily available on the market but for which the technologyrnexists.rnDifferent possibilities are assessed on their technical, financial, organizational and ecologicalrnfeasibility and appropriateness. This analysis indicates the typical missions for pre-andrnposthaulage, like type of trips, distance, frequency, urban/suburban, etc.rnThe intermodal transport market is being strongly supported as it is one of the keystones of arnsustainable mobility system. The introduction of environmentally friendly electric/hybrid vehiclesrnfor the pre- and posthaulage sections would mean a further enhancement allowing to reach a realrnecological solution.
