摘要

The current confused and inconsistent state of colour standards arose from three causes: the industry-specific organisational structure of standards bodies; the device-specific focus of many colour standards; and an apparent lack of understanding of colour science on the part of those writing standards. By considering colour imaging in toto, and in the light of colour science, the CIE can definitely improve on the consistency of colour standards. If we succeed in our efforts, colour-imaging standards will be more consistent, colour management architectures will be more straightforward, and colour image communication will be more appealing.
