The UGR method of CIE report 117 serves as a practical discomfort glare evaluation system for use in interior lighting. However, because of conventions for derivation of the parameters of the basic formula, the method cannot be applied to other situations, and integral measurement of UGR is difficult. The paper suggests some modifications of the conventions with the purpose of given the UGR method general applicability, and to facilitate measurement. Some preliminary testing of the applicability is accounted for.
